While the Government is experiencing significant budget deficit, the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (“IRD”) is allocating increasing resources to tax audits. The IRD’s tax audit approach is evolving, with greater emphasis on cross‑jurisdictional information exchange. Recent changes in Hong Kong tax law have also introduced new areas of potential dispute, while advances in technology have enhanced the IRD’s ability to identify tax audit targets. Taxpayers and practitioners must stay abreast of these developments to effectively navigate the audit process.

To provide insights into these changes, we have invited PwC’s tax controversy specialists, who are also ex IRD officers, to share highlights of recent audit developments. The speakers will guide participants through the tax audit process, outline the IRD’s latest practices, and illustrate resolution strategies using real case examples. In addition, participants will be encouraged to suggest topics, enabling the speakers to tailor their discussion with relevant examples during the seminar.

Workshop outline:

  • Micro-movies showcasing each stage of a tax audit across common business types
  • Step-by-step demonstrations of strategies for resolving tax audits effectively
  • Customized case analysis in Lecture 4, built on participants’ input from Lectures 1 to 3
  • Practical case studies drawn from real-life tax audit experiences

Key contents of each lecture are as follows :
