Qualifying Programme for Membership

Since First launched in 1994, the Qualifying Programme offered in collaboration with the School of Continuing and Professional Education, City University of Hong Kong provides aspiring tax professionals who are not qualified accountants, lawyers or company secretaries with an additional channel to attain membership of the Institute. Upon successful completion of the Programme, graduates who have fulfilled the Instituteˇ¦s requirements on academic standard, taxation experience and character are eligible for admission to the Institute.

The Law Society of Hong Kong has also approved the Continuing Education Diploma in Advanced Taxation and Tax Planning of this Qualifying Programme for the purpose of compliance with the requirements under its CPD scheme. Up to 15 points of the annual CPD requirements will be counted in each year for the course taken and duly attended by the trainee solicitors / solicitors.

The Qualifying Programme comprises a 123-hour course on Continuing Education Certificate in Hong Kong Taxation and a 258-hour course on Continuing Education Diploma in Advanced Taxation and Tax Planning. The first course covers topics in accounting, business law and Hong Kong taxation while the advanced course focuses on PRC tax as well as domestic and international tax planning.

Being offered for more than a decade, the Qualifying Programme has undergone continuous renewal and updating in contents with a view to meeting evolving need of the profession and society at large. The Programme is open to application in February / March and commences in late April / early May every year.
